Next Botanical Field Meeting

The next vascular plant field meeting will take place on Saturday 3rd June at Terrace Hills, near Stathern. We will start recording in the monad SK7930 which includes the Terrace Hills SSSI, that has some of the best remaining examples of calcareous old pasture in Leicestershire, so there will be plenty of interesting species to see.

Park safely and meet on Belvoir Road near a field gate on the SE side of the road near SK793311. The nearest place name on Explorer map 260 is Terrace Hills Farm, the entrance to which is about 200 yards NE of the gate. The tenant farmer tells me that the SSSI field is grazed by 'well behaved' cattle. Once we have explored the SSSI, we will explore some of the rest of tetrad SK73V (Stathern Wood) using Belvoir Road, footpaths and tracks.

The meeting is suitable for beginners and more experienced botanists, and will be a fairly leisurely day with plenty of time to discuss what we find. The meeting will start at 10:30 a.m. and continue until around 3:00 p.m. You're welcome to stay with us for as long as you wish, and to leave at any time, provided you tell us when you go. Please bring sunscreen, rain gear etc. to suit the weather, and lunch and a drink, if staying all day.

If you would like more details or to arrange car-sharing, please phone me on 07594 302127.
